Sketching Back in Tunisia

Trucks and cars are back in my sketchbook--caught when we go out on errands. Along with people who cross my path.

Finish Line in Sight

Yes, the finish line is in sight and I now have a new item of summer clothing from an old one. The colors bring back memories of summer. This has been an easy project to do with only one color to work with and no tangles.

Little People

When little people are around, I ask them to contribute to my daily journal. So cheerful compared to the people in the Tunis airport.

Going to the Dentist

Besides keeping my well-worn teeth functional, I can think of another good reason for visiting my dentist, whose office is in downtown Tunis: I find a five-hour block of time (mostly uninterrupted) for stitching and sketching. Because parking has become impossible in the big city, I usually take a taxi, and then a bus to return home. Lots of interesting subjects...
For the sweltering temperatures, the bus has the old-fashioned style of air conditioning: open the windows and drive fast. Ballpoint pen with Prismacolor pencils in my small daily journal.

A Summer Party

When I went to the afternoon barbecue birthday party of a friend of friends in August, I did a bit of chatting and sketching while children played in the backyard and around the house. The tiny baby slept peacefully.

I had caught my friend on a treadmill earlier.

Just playing around...nice memories.

Snow Days

As this week's blistering temperatures inch towards 105° F (40+° C.) with a Sirricco (hot desert wind), I remain blissfully happy. These are "snow days" for me because it would be unhealthy to go outside. And so I sit contentedly with needle in hand. The spotted vest just might be a rapid project.

I'll go out in the late afternoon to talk to my lemon trees. Temperatures are supposed to go down slightly next week...

Lazy Summer Days, 4

Interesting people crossed my path this summer...Modie, my sister's pug, counts as a family member, of course.

Doodling & a Spot, 4

More evening stitching on my cotton vest with a spot. After picking lemons most of the day. I love lemons, I love stitching--life is good. I don't even mind the 90° heat.

Lazy Summer Days, 3

Family members were unsuspecting models this summer. Very convenient. I got a new color for my Prismacolor pencil collection, a neon orange. Had to test it out on the right side. How fun is that?

Doodling & a Spot, 3

Stitching before collapsing into bed at night. Work in the orchards is giving me a total workout...feelin' good.

Lazy Summer Days, 2

A final meeting with colleagues in June and then it was off to the beach with the family where I sketched a vegetable vendor.

Doodling & a Spot, 2

Stitching late at night. This is a fun project because of all the possibilities of shapes.

Lazy Summer Days, 1

While in the States I didn't have my colored pencils with me so now I'm finishing the sketches in my everyday small sketchbook/journal. Reliving the summer as fall approaches.

I continue to practice drawing people--still tough for me. What I particularly notice is that people are sometimes surprised at how they appear if I show them what I drew.

Ballpoint pen & Prismacolor pencils.

Doodling & a Spot

Oh, drat! I got a spot on a vest; a comfortable piece of clothing made from a nondescript cotton. Middle front, no way to hide it.

This might be an opportunity--maybe a flower would be in order?

Or maybe something bigger and wilder?

And then there were my 300+ new fabrics still sitting on my sewing table. How about that pretty turquoise and blue fabric on the top of the pile?

Ahhh, but did I need another project?
