Cross-overs

I seem to have developed a habit of sketching during dinner (easier than stitching at the dinner table!) since it's just the ol' man and me. This does not impinge on interpersonal communication since I can talk at the same time. 

Last night I decided to draw on a scrap of fabric with a permanent pen (Copic Multiliner 0.5). I've been thinking about inserting watch & clock faces into at least one of my pieces about ageing. That idea would require more than one or two faces, maybe a bunch. That's a pleasant thought. Without hands...maybe the hands should be floating on the outside of the face...haven't decided. 

And then, to stitch or not to stitch...still ruminating.

On my work table...a mess! 

My fabric collection dazzles me--so many greens (all from used clothing).
And this is just a small sampling. I've been reflecting on all the varieties of green that range from yellow to blue to gray.

Sketch Club Meets Art Quilt

Don't know why, but, some of the multicolored snippets of my life seem to be intersecting. Sketch Club meets Art Quilt, or something of the sort. I photocopied a page that I liked from my sketch book.

It has to do with the interesting lines. I like those lines, I want to see those lines in fabric...

Maybe a threesome? I also like the spiral marks of the notebook. 
Thinking about how to proceed. Build a patchwork base, then put the photocopy on the back and machine stitch over the lines. The bobbin thread would be on the right side.

Could I challenge myself to work fast? Spring break will be here in two weeks...

I'm supposed to..., 2

I know, I know, I'm still supposed to be grading exams. And I'm NOT supposed to be starting anything new. But I had this stack of snippets with such interesting shapes and beautiful colors that I put into a tin--leftovers from my oranges sketchbook page.

I tried to use up a bunch of bits in my sketchbooks, but I just kept creating more snippets. 

So I chose gray and black base fabrics

and started to stitch down the interesting shapes of one snippet with a running stitch.

I cut out a hole and reverse appliquéd the edge. Raw edges with finished edges. No idea where this is going, just playing. No expectations.
