Doodling & a Spot, 3

Stitching before collapsing into bed at night. Work in the orchards is giving me a total workout...feelin' good.

Lazy Summer Days, 2

A final meeting with colleagues in June and then it was off to the beach with the family where I sketched a vegetable vendor.

Doodling & a Spot, 2

Stitching late at night. This is a fun project because of all the possibilities of shapes.

Lazy Summer Days, 1

While in the States I didn't have my colored pencils with me so now I'm finishing the sketches in my everyday small sketchbook/journal. Reliving the summer as fall approaches.

I continue to practice drawing people--still tough for me. What I particularly notice is that people are sometimes surprised at how they appear if I show them what I drew.

Ballpoint pen & Prismacolor pencils.

Doodling & a Spot

Oh, drat! I got a spot on a vest; a comfortable piece of clothing made from a nondescript cotton. Middle front, no way to hide it.

This might be an opportunity--maybe a flower would be in order?

Or maybe something bigger and wilder?

And then there were my 300+ new fabrics still sitting on my sewing table. How about that pretty turquoise and blue fabric on the top of the pile?

Ahhh, but did I need another project?

More Summer Doodle Stitching

Doodling along with thread and needle allows me to explore the possibilities of stitch juxtaposed to fabric. This has been a peaceful project--mindless and yet mindful. Quite bizarre!

A Meeting

Meetings are often tedious, but not this one. Good use of time...

Summer Doodle Stitching

My leisurely summer vacation has affected my stitching--I have been stitching s-l-o-w-l-y. This is partially due to the lack of a sewing machine.

Just doodling on fabric with bits of scraps that I couldn't throw away. I'm leaving the raw edges (attached with a running stitch) and then adding some needle turn appliqué holes here and there.

Cheerful.

Out and About, 12

Sketching while out and about in June and sketching suffering students. Exams sometimes extend well into June. Most students are now on the beaches and school will probably start rolling in October; It is a beach culture, after all, at least along the coast.

Two Houses

While proctoring exams in June, I looked out the window and drew nearby houses. Lovely weather. Good use of time.

An Olive Tree

Olive trees have silvery-green leaves that are beautiful in the wind. I have several wild olive trees (they seem to sprout up everyplace) in my garden. This one is an old tree I saw on the road.

Breakdown

My uneventful drive to Kairouan became eventful when my car stopped on the autoroute (freeway). It all turned into an adventure when I got to ride in a tow truck, whose driver deposited my car at the local mechanic's shop. While waiting for the tow truck to arrive, I sketched my surroundings to record the moment.

The University of Kairouan

The road to Kairouan is torturous and the landscape becomes drier and drier as one drives south and west. I helped with some academic work at the University of Kairouan, spending the better part of a day there.

I was thankful to get back to my corner of the world where it's greener.

Another Suffering Student

It's a tough choice, the beach or exams.

And then out and about, driving in Tunis. Temperatures are rising...

Airport Sketching

The summer has been busy with lots of trips to the airport.

However, it is a sad airport, rather morose, with few tourists daring to venture forth.
