Abstracted Pomegranate, 3

Finished a page for my textile sketchbook/journal.
I'm tempted to add hand stitching into the green background, maybe doodling. However, I will resist. First of all, my rule for the textile sketchbook is speed (relative). Secondly there's rather a lot of paper on the back that would require picking out. Thirdly, I like the simplicity of the design.
The red background fabric, although mostly covered, still has a presence. The red extensions make me think of new scientific theory, which suggests that all living things have an energy field around them, a sort of aura. I like the idea of auras. That is, we extend beyond ourselves in some sort of ephemeral way.

Like that extension idea. In the Pom I can see flecks of white but without the aura, I would be unable to figure out that red fabric. The auras added a lot to this composition.

That pomegranate really looks dimensonal--lovely colors in it. love those raggedy edges, too...lovely work...Julierose

I confess to getting carried away with the thread, Minka. I usually leave more fabric showing. Couldn't help myself!

I like the raw edges, too, Julierose, as long as I can keep them relatively under control. Finished edges tend to please me more, just a personal preference, but I especially like the contrast of the two. They enhance each other. Yet, I may have finished edges without raw edges in a piece, but never raw edges without finished edges. Like I said, just a personal preference, something about craftsmanship and precision and a desire for some kind of order.

With the exception of the Textile Sketchbook, which has no finished edges. Another adventure for me...
