New Idea

Maybe I should not have said "no" to my idea of translating the tile medallion mosaic to fabric in the previous post. It has been irritatingly insistent in my mind.

Ok, ok. I'll at least get the idea recorded here and then it will quietly simmer on a back burner and stop tickling me--hopefully.

I've been thinking about this old design for a few weeks, ever since I started putting order in my sketchbooks and photographing them. Also because I haven't got a big maze piece to work on, which is sort of bothering me. So, this design has twining needleturn appliqué around three circular forms. At the time (1996, ouch!), I thought the mariner's compass design would be good for the circles, but now the mosaic medallion seems better.

Or maybe one mariner's compass and two tile circles....

Now, maybe I can have some peace?

first of all - you'll need to share how you manage to "put some order" into your sketch books - secondly - can't wait to see which way you chose. You know I have this love affair going to mosiac - so I would lean that way - plus its so freeing! mariners compasses - which I really love too - but it does have a bit of formalized control about it doesn't it. . .

Let's see, Nina. I don't have that many sketchbooks probably because of time constraints and because I'd rather be stitching. To make them easily accessible, however, I've photographed all the pages and I'm slowly getting them into "pages" at the top bar of this blog. I would be embarrassed to say how long it took me to figure out the "pages" thing.

Because I started MulticoloredSnippets as a working blog, I want all the "historical" material organized and at my fingertips...I might add, that although it's taking me some time, it feels so good to pull it all together, have it all available, and yet out of the way. Liberating! and I'm learning a few things about myself, my processes and my visual/artistic voice as well. I do have a journal where I scribble an occasional idea, but lately this blog seems to be replacing it. I'm rather interested to see where the technology will take me.

As for the mariner's compasses and medallion idea--it may have to simmer for a long time before I get to it....

You've taken the next step! That's always a good thing in my book.
